Background of the Study
Border security is a critical aspect of national security, especially for countries like Nigeria that share borders with multiple nations. In recent years, Nigeria has faced significant security challenges related to cross-border activities, including smuggling, insurgency, and illegal immigration. Jibia, located in Katsina State, shares a border with the Republic of Niger and has been a hotspot for border security issues, including the trafficking of weapons and the movement of insurgents and militants across borders.
Muhammadu Buhari’s administration implemented various border security policies aimed at curbing illegal activities and enhancing the nation’s security. These policies included the closure of borders, increased military and police presence at border posts, and the establishment of specialized border security units. The effectiveness of these policies in addressing security challenges in border towns like Jibia has been a subject of debate, as the region continues to experience security threats despite these efforts.
